They are seeking a talented, creative Scientist to join VelociGene’s neurodegenerative disease research team. The individual will be involved in basic research studies designed to understand the biology behind various neurodegenerative diseases, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis The candidate should have a strong background in neurodegenerative diseases and RNA biology. S/he should be capable of executing both cell-based and in vivo assays to support the characterization and evaluation of novel disease models and use them as a preliminary system to evaluate potential therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases.

Eligibility:
To be considered for this role, you must have a Ph.D. + 2-4+ years of relevant experience. An excellent publication record is highly desirable. Managerial experience is highly desirable. . Experience working with animal and cellular models of neurodegenerative diseases. Broad knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, histology, tissue preparation, cell culture and in vitro assay development. Primary culture of neural cells, differentiation of ES or hIPCs highly desirable. Experience with antisense oligonucleotides, siRNA and/or CRISPR technologies desirable
In this role, a typical day may include:
- Help develop and characterize novel cellular models and animal models to better understand the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and to to test novel therapeutics
- Design and execute cell-based assays, and/or other novel technologies to better understand the mechanisms of neurodegeneration and to to test novel therapeutics
- Understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, the motor system and RNA biology is highly desirable
- Design rigorous and appropriate experiments to address core questions, and carefully analyze and evaluate data
- Present data both internally and externally, and participate in discussions in our collaborative, cross-functional team environment
- Perform immunohistochemical and biochemical analyses of cell and animal models of neurodegenerative diseases
- Contribute to the writing of protocols and articles for publication
- Motivate, develop, and supervise research associates
