Overview
The Womenโs Health and Genetics division of LabCorp is seeking a Variant Scientist to join the Variant Science Group (VSG). This role performs technical and non-technical analysis to classify DNA sequence variants from high-complexity genetic testing following established SOPs and protocols. Work includes the use of internal data, bioinformatics tools, gene-disease curation, and published resources.
Responsibilities
- Process and classify DNA sequence variants and/or CNVs in accordance with SOPs.
- Use in-house rule-based classification tools to evaluate and score variants.
- Apply bioinformatics tools and published resources to support classification.
- Perform literature and database searches needed for variant analysis.
- Accurately curate variant classification worksheets in a clear, traceable format.
- Export completed variant reports for review by directors and genetic counselors.
- Conduct gene-disease association curation per company protocols.
- Interpret variants from WES/WGS and evaluate clinical relevance.
- Maintain variant classification tracking documents.
- Ensure adherence to HGVS nomenclature and company classification rules.
- Meet production timelines and communicate updates promptly.
- Participate in team discussions, meetings, and relevant scientific conferences.
Requirements for Remote Jobs in USA
- PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, or Masterโs in Genetic Counseling (required).
- Minimum 1 year experience classifying variants using ACMG guidelines in a clinical setting (required).
- Strong background in Human Genetics, mutation databases, and HGVS nomenclature.
- Proficiency with large NGS datasets, in-silico tools, genome browsers, and bioinformatics software.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, especially Excel for data parsing and automation.
- Strong analytical skills, scientific writing, organization, and ability to interpret clinical/functional data.
- Ability to work with urgency, meet timelines, and maintain high ethical standards.
