Job Description

Serves in the Department of Pharmacology and Molecular Therapeutics, supporting the Kortum laboratory at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The lab focuses on understanding mechanisms of drug-tolerant persister survival and identifying biomarkers of tumor-initiating cells in RTK-mutated NSCLC.

This molecular biology job includes initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.

  • Investigates feasibility of applying scientific principles to inventions and products
  • Performs specialized laboratory research using techniques such as:
    • Cell line generation (viral vectors and CRISPR technology)
    • Cell culture
    • Nucleic acid extraction/purification/transfection
    • Growth factor stimulation, BRET, immunoprecipitation, Western blotting
    • Molecular cloning and site-directed mutagenesis
    • Immunofluorescence and confocal microscopy
    • Animal genetics and husbandry
  • Collects and handles samples and maintains detailed experiment records
  • Processes and interprets experimental data and prepares reports
  • Assists in preparing data for scientific publications and presentations
  • Trains laboratory staff when required
  • Maintains laboratory cleanliness and equipment
  • Performs flow cytometry and analyzes ssRNA sequencing
  • Acquires RTK-mutated NSCLC cell lines from ATCC
  • Performs other assigned duties
