Job Description: Yale Research Associate

The Research Associate at Yale will engage in projects aimed at understanding tick-host-pathogen interactions, focusing on the Lyme disease agent. The role involves utilizing mouse and guinea pig models of tick feeding to develop strategies for preventing tick transmission of pathogens and interrupting the tick life cycle. Responsibilities include training in animal handling, isolating RNA and DNA, performing quantitative PCR, purifying recombinant proteins, and maintaining laboratory records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train in animal handling, tick rearing, and maintenance of both murine and guinea pig models.
  • Isolate RNA and DNA from ticks and murine and guinea pig skin tissues.
  • Perform quantitative PCR reactions to determine gene expression profiles.
  • Isolate and purify recombinant proteins in E. coli or Drosophila expression systems, perform ELISA and western blots for serological evaluation.
  • Maintain animals (mice and guinea pigs), perform routine anesthetization and euthanization as warranted by the IACUC protocols.
  • Meticulously maintain lab notebooks to record all experiments, animal, and tick inventories.
  • Perform routine lab chores including ordering supplies and ensuring good lab practices.

Eligibility for Research Associate at Yale

  • Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and three years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Qualification: Preferred M.S. with extensive biological sciences/molecular techniques; DNA/RNA extraction, PCR/qPCR/RT-PCR, protein purification, ELISA, western blot; mouse (and guinea pig) handling
  • Experience: Animal models of tick feeding; recombinant protein expression; lab maintenance

Required Skills For Research Associate Job

  • Proven experience handling mice, anesthetization, and blood drawing.
  • DNA/RNA extraction from animal tissues, cell lines, and blood.
  • Experience with PCR assays, QPCR, and RT-PCR.
  • Protein purification, ELISA, and western blot assays.
  • Routine lab maintenance and documentation of experimental details.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.

Salary

Salary Range: $68,000.00 – $120,500.00
