Job Description

The Research Technician will join the Blum Lab at the MGH Krantz Family Center for Cancer Research, focusing on immunotherapy strategies for solid tumors. This position offers opportunities to develop and perform advanced experimental procedures, analyze results, and contribute to scientific publications. Candidates will work in biosafety level 1–2+ labs and collaborate with clinicians, fellows, and researchers across Boston’s biomedical ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and perform bench-level experiments in consultation with the Principal Investigator.
  • Lead small independent research projects.
  • Conduct experiments including:
  • Isolation and purification of primary cells.
    • Flow cytometry and cell sorting.
    • Ex vivo and in vitro functional assays.
    • Fluorescence microscopy and image analysis.
    • Genetic and mRNA-based cellular perturbations.
    • Single-cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics.
    • Molecular cloning, DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, qPCR.
  • Analyze, document, and interpret experimental results.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and manage samples, reagents, and equipment.
  • Participate in lab meetings, assist with general lab operations, and contribute to collaborative research discussions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree preferred with >1 year of lab experience, or Bachelor’s with >2 years of research experience.
  • Strong foundation in laboratory techniques and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred but not required: bioinformatics exposure (Python, R), project management, or programming experience.
