Job Description
The Microbiology Quality Specialist supports both Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) functions to ensure culture media products meet strict regulatory, safety, and quality standards (GMP/ISO). This role is essential in maintaining compliance and supporting continuous quality improvement within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Testing
- Perform and document routine QC testing on finished goods, intermediates, and raw materials per approved production specifications.
- Maintain laboratory inventory of supplies and bacterial strains.
- Ensure calibration and verification of all laboratory equipment.
- Conduct troubleshooting testing for non-conforming products.
- Assist in equipment validation for QC and manufacturing; gather evidence and prepare validation reports.
Documentation & Compliance
- Review production worksheets and material specifications for accuracy and conformance.
- Create and publish lot-specific Certificates of Analysis (CoAs).
- Draft and review technical documents, including Instructions for Use (IFUs) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Document non-conformances, deviations, and CAPAs.
- Initiate and/or review changes within the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Initiate or review records related to deviations, non-conformances, and CAPAs.
Product Development Support
- Contribute to new product development, including formulation studies and shelf life/stability testing.
- Perform required testing associated with change control processes.
Qualifications for Microbiology Jobs in USA
Basic Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or related field.
Basic Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of microbiology experience.
- Hands-on experience with microbiological testing, culture media, and QC methods.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or quality control environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485, and relevant regulatory standards.
- Experience with aseptic technique, media preparation, sterilization, and microbiological culturing.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without restriction or sponsorship.
