About the University

Biotech Fellowship Description

Biotech fellowship candidates will participate in the research project “BE@T – Biotechnological processes for obtaining materials/ingredients with potential value in the textile and clothing industry.” The selected fellow will contribute to scientific activities focused on enzymatic technologies and the valorization of cellulosic residues. The project aims to develop sustainable biotechnological solutions for generating valuable materials and ingredients for textile and clothing applications.

The work will be conducted at the Centre of Biological Engineering, University of Minho, Braga, under the supervision of Professor Lígia Raquel Marona Rodrigues and coordination by Dr. Nuno Miguel Dias Cerca.

Qualifications

Biotech fellowship applicants must meet the following eligibility and academic requirements.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program before fellowship contract signing.
  • Degree area should be:
  • Must not have previously benefited from research grants awarded under the Research Grant Holder Statute.
  • Must satisfy eligibility requirements established by FCT Research Grant Regulations.

Preferred

  • Experience in enzymatic catalysis.
  • Experience in valorization of cellulosic residues.
  • Strong interest in biotechnology research and sustainable bioeconomy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

Biotech fellowship – Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluation and selection of commercial enzymes.
  • Enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulosic residues.
  • Participation in laboratory-based biotechnology and biochemistry research activities.
  • Collection, analysis, and interpretation of experimental data.
  • Contribution to project objectives related to sustainable bioeconomy solutions.
  • Preparation of research documentation and reports when required.
  • Collaboration with supervisors and research team members.
