Job Overview
Piper Companies is hiring a skilled Upstream Scientist, Process Development to support the design, optimization, and scale-up of cell culture processes for biologics manufacturing. This position offers the chance to work on cutting-edge projects that bridge research and large-scale production, ensuring compliance with global regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments to develop robust upstream processes for recombinant protein and biologics production.
- Optimize cell culture conditions, including media composition, feeding strategies, and bioreactor parameters to improve yield and product consistency.
- Support scale-up and technology transfer from bench-scale to pilot and GMP manufacturing environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Downstream Development, Analytical Development, MS&T, and Quality Assurance.
- Author and review technical reports, protocols, and risk assessments in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
- Troubleshoot upstream process issues and provide technical guidance to manufacturing teams.
- Maintain strict adherence to cGMP, FDA, EMA, and international regulatory frameworks.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelorโs or Masterโs degree in Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Cell Biology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in upstream process development or biopharmaceutical research.
- Proven expertise in mammalian cell culture and large-scale bioreactors (AMBR, 3L systems).
- Solid understanding of cell metabolism, process engineering, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency with data analysis tools such as JMP, Minitab, or Excel.
