Job Description:
The Microbiologist is responsible for conducting both qualitative and quantitative testing on finished products, in-process materials, water, and environmental samples using aseptic techniques. The role involves ensuring test accuracy while adhering to Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Documentation Practice (GDP) standards. The position supports the maintenance of food safety and quality across the production line.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply aseptic/microbiological techniques and analyze samples for indicator organisms and pathogens.
- Maintain accurate, legible records and follow GDP.
- Conduct laboratory procedures based on Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products and other guidelines.
- Perform tests and notify QA management of any deviations.
- Prepare media and reagents for microbiological testing.
- Maintain technical proficiency and stay updated on industry trends.
- Monitor inventory and assist with lab supply requirements.
- Conduct routine quality control tasks, including temperature checks and media validation.
- Coordinate sample collection and handling.
- Maintain cleanliness and comply with SOPs, HACCP, and food safety standards.
Qualifications:
Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent aseptic technique; proficient with biological hoods.
- Knowledgeable in GMP/GLP, FDA, SMEDP, ADPI, and AOAC standards.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including weekends/holidays.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in lab testing.
- Good verbal and written communication.
- Able to follow SOPs and prioritize tasks effectively.
Experience (Required):

1–4 years of experience in a related field or industry.
Experience (Preferred):
- Previous experience in a GMP-regulated environment.
- 1–2 years of microbiology-specific experience.
Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand/walk for 12+ hours.
- Safely operate lab equipment.
- Lift/push/pull items up to 55 lbs.
- Tolerating noisy environments and confined spaces.
- Work safely with hazardous chemicals.
