Position Summary
As an Intern โ Food Safety & Quality Lab, youโll gain valuable, hands-on experience in food safety, quality assurance, and manufacturing processes. You will learn about Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), HACCP principles, and quality systems, while assisting in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
This position emphasizes compliance with all Safety, GMP, and Food Quality standards. Youโll play a key role in ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed consistently to reduce product and process variability.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting, revising, and maintaining plant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Act as a liaison between Production, Distribution, Sanitation, Maintenance, and the Quality Department.
- Participate in food safety and quality inspections and in-process quality checks.
- Verify the sanitary condition of production lines before start-up and after maintenance.
- Conduct investigative environmental swabbing for troubleshooting production issues.
- Create and maintain Excel spreadsheets, perform trending analyses, and prepare PowerPoint reports.
- Follow GMP and HACCP guidelines to ensure product quality and food safety.
- Report any practices or conditions that may impact food safety, product quality, or personnel safety.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Site QA Manager.
Language Skills:
Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred, but not required.
Education & Experience for Food Science Internship:
- Currently enrolled in or attending an accredited 2- or 4-year college/university in Food Science or related field.
- Ability to interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Competence in mathematical calculations, including ratios, percentages, and graph interpretation.
- Sound problem-solving ability in standardized situations.
Other Skills:
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for data analysis and report creation.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
