Job Description
This is a technical scientific position within the Peptide Therapeutics Team, part of Biotechnology Discovery Research at Lilly’s Indianapolis location. The selected candidate will be responsible for identifying, optimizing, and advancing biotherapeutic peptides and conjugates. This role requires leading and influencing projects, proposing strategic directions, and working cross-functionally with various teams to move projects from concept to clinical development.
Key Responsibilities
- Research Leadership: Lead research efforts to identify and optimize therapeutic peptides. This includes material generation and characterization using biochemical and biophysical techniques.
- Peptide Optimization: Implement rational Structure-Activity Relationship (SAR) strategies to enhance the properties of therapeutic peptides and conjugates. This involves expertise in peptide synthesis, conformational analysis, and molecular modeling.
- Therapeutic Focus: Exhibit strong problem-solving skills, particularly at the intersection of peptide engineering, pharmaceutical development, and biology.
- Collaboration & Communication: Lead or co-lead multidisciplinary teams, effectively communicate research findings and project plans, and work collaboratively across different departments.
Qualifications
- Minimum Requirements:
- A Ph.D. in chemical or biological sciences with a focus on peptide chemistry or synthetic organic chemistry.
- 0-5 years of experience in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical company, or academic setting.
- Additional Preferences:
- Demonstrated leadership in peptide engineering with a track record of advancing biotherapeutics to clinical development.
- Experience in multi-molecular conjugation chemistry.
- Proficiency with state-of-the-art analytical methods for characterizing peptides, proteins, and conjugates.
- Knowledge of macrocyclic peptides, including library screening technologies like OBOC or mRNA display.
- Familiarity with computational and structural efforts for hit identification.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- An understanding of peptide formulation requirements and pharmaceutical developability.
