About the Job
This position will primarily involve conducting experiments aimed at generating induced pluripotent stem cells for the NYBC iPSC bank. The Research Assistant I will be responsible for advanced research activities to support science-based projects. This role will require working independently to develop new methods and technologies for project advancement.
Responsibilities
- Initiate and complete tissue culturing protocols with reproducibility and sterile technique.
- Perform primary tissue processing and purification of blood cells.
- Assist with the execution and image acquisition of immunofluorescent microscopy.
- Isolation of mRNA and quantification using RT-qPCR techniques.
- Perform animal husbandry tasks including genotyping, tagging, and injections.
- Conduct various ancillary experiments involved in projects as needed.
- Maintain accurate records for individual experiments and project progression.
- Manage records for ordering and inventory of supplies.
- Maintain documentation for Standard Operating Procedures as outlined by the iPSC bank.
Education:
BS or higher degree in molecular cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 0โ2 years of advanced experience in a research or clinical lab environment. Experience with handling primary samples, tissue culture, and microscopy is necessary.
Knowledge:
Advanced knowledge of basic and complex scientific and laboratory techniques. Proficiency in various computer programs, including Microsoft applications, Prism, and biostatistics analysis tools.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work independently with discretion and judgment.
- Capability to design experimental protocols and adjust based on outcomes.
- Proficiency in performing highly complex research activities and advanced scientific techniques.
- Aptitude to summarize experimental outcomes, write reports, and plan future experiments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for managing various issues and situations, including interactions with staff up to executive leadership.
For applicants working in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $45,000.00. Salary for those outside these regions will be based on local market rates and the applicant’s skills, knowledge, and experience.
