Job Purpose
Climate Change impacts rice production through exacerbated and more frequent climate extremes. The Assistant Scientist – Agronomist (Precision Agriculture) at IRRI will be responsible for designing, conducting, and evaluating agronomic field experiments and trials on climate change adaptation and mitigation technologies in rice-based systems. This role aims to support the implementation of climate-smart technologies in rice production, focusing on increasing adoption rates in Thailand.
Roles and Responsibilities

Lead precision agriculture trials and digital tool implementation in rice systems
-
Conduct field experiments and field evaluations of technologies like DSR and GHG reduction methods

Train stakeholders in sustainable agronomy, data collection, and interpretation
-
Contribute to the development of manuals, reports, and scientific publications

Collaborate with public-private partners and contribute to project monitoring, reviews, and evaluations

Provide scientific input and assist in knowledge dissemination at conferences and workshops
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s in Agronomy, Agricultural Science/Engineering, or Environmental Science with 4+ years of relevant experience
OR -
Master’s in the same field with 1+ year of relevant experience

Hands-on experience in digital agriculture tools, drones, sensors, soil data, GHG measurement, big data, or AI-based tools
Skills Required

Strong skills in conducting and analyzing field trials

Digital literacy with agri-tech tools

Excellent communication in English (written and spoken)

Self-motivated with minimal supervision

Proficiency in research, report writing, and stakeholder collaboration
