Lab Technician Jobs at Caltech- Role
As a Research Technician, you will:
- Perform molecular biology tasks including PCR, gel electrophoresis, cloning, sequencing, and plasmid preparation.
- Conduct protein purification using affinity and size-exclusion chromatography.
- Perform Western blotting, SDS-PAGE, bioconjugations, ELISAs, and other related assays.
- Transfect and maintain mammalian cell lines.
- Prepare buffers and reagents, maintain laboratory records, and support general lab operations.
- Assist in animal handling and experiments if applicable, including sample collection, drug administration, and daily health monitoring.
- Work as part of a collaborative research team, including weekends as part of the regular work schedule.
Lab Technician Jobs at Caltech- Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Biology or related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in a biology or chemistry research laboratory.
- Mammalian cell culture and protein purification experience.
- Knowledge of buffer preparation and calculations.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred:
- Background in immunology, molecular biology, or structural biology.
- BSL-2 experience.
- Experience with transfection and maintenance of mammalian or yeast cell lines.
- Prior experience with mice or other murine models.
Salary & Benefits:
- Hourly pay range: $25.25 – $30.75.
