Job Description:
This is a Microbiology Scientist 2 position located in Pittsburgh, PA. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. FREE PARKING AVAILABLE!

As a Scientist 2 – Microbiologist, you will be responsible for overseeing and conducting microbiological testing, ensuring quality control, and providing technical expertise to support environmental safety. You will engage in moderate to complex microbiological analyses, data interpretation, and compliance with laboratory protocols, as well as collaboration across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct intermediate to complex microbiological testing using analytical instrumentation.
- Interpret and document test results accurately in accordance with SOPs.
- Review microbiology documentation, databases, and forms.
- Provide analysis and counsel on microbiology procedures and practices.
- Manage customer feedback and assist in resolving issues.
- Monitor lab operations and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Clean, calibrate, and maintain lab equipment and tools.
- Participate in cross-functional project planning and execution.
- Follow all relevant policies, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Support team initiatives and contribute to a productive work environment.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry/biochemistry, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in microbiology, including complex operations or programs.
Required Knowledge:
- Strong microbiology fundamentals, including plate reading.
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation and calibration.
- Understanding of microbiology laws and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of computer systems relevant to lab work.
Required Skills:
- Ability to independently conduct microbiological testing and interpret results.
- Capable of training and supporting team members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and compliance interpretation.
- Team collaboration and independent problem-solving.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Lab and office mobility; ability to lift to 20 pounds.
- Visual and auditory ability for equipment operation and communication.
