Job Description

Lab Analyst Interns are trained in basic laboratory testing techniques and assigned to specific departments focused on Medical Device testing. This program runs 12 weeks from May 18th to August 7th. The majority of the role is actively learning, through performing laboratory tests, under the guidance of an assigned Supervisor. Interns are also aligned with a dedicated Mentor to provide guidance and support. Weekly “lunch and learn” sessions are held, educating our Interns on a variety of topics from Scientific Testing techniques and Business Operations to Presentation and Leadership skills. We will also have roughly 6 team-building & networking activities with some recent examples including an Escape Room, Company Scavenger Hunt, Bowling, and a Bees Baseball game!

Program Overview

The Lab Analyst Internship Program at Nelson Labs offers an exciting life science internship experience designed for college students pursuing careers in laboratory science and biotechnology. Interns are trained in core laboratory testing techniques within departments dedicated to medical device and pharmaceutical testing. This 12-week program runs from May 18th to August 7th and provides real, hands-on exposure to scientific testing environments. Youโ€™ll perform laboratory experiments under the supervision of experienced analysts while learning from a dedicated mentor.

Interns participate in weekly โ€œlunch and learnโ€ sessions covering topics such as advanced scientific testing, business operations, leadership, and presentation skills. The program also includes team-building events like escape rooms, scavenger hunts, bowling, and baseball games โ€” making it both educational and fun!

Scientific/General

  • Perform basic lab procedures such as: Plate counts, Gram stains, Plate streaking, Aseptic technique, and Daily standardization.
  • Participate in the collaboration of quality events (unexpected results, deviations, etc.).
  • Ensure testing is conducted according to approved procedures.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Follow applicable regulatory requirements (GMP, GLP, ISO, etc.) and ensure all data are accurately and concurrently recorded.
  • Notify the Study Director of any unforeseen circumstances or events that occur during testing.

Physical Requirements:

  • The physical demands described here are a representation of those that must be met to perform the essential job functions:
  • Required to sit 15% of the day, stand and traverse 75% of the day to various office and lab locations, and 10% of the day working at a computer.
  • Bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
  • Ability to have full-body movement is required.
  • Occasional push and pull tasks with one or both hands.
  • Must be able to work while wearing personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, goggles, face shields, gloves, lab coats, and personal protective equipment deemed necessary to protect testing and to protect employees from various solutions, wastes, etc.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
