Life Science Internship Assignment Summary

As a Lab Assistant Intern, you will gain insight into the operations of the anatomic pathology department and observe the entire process from specimen receipt to diagnosis.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform lab assistant and specimen processing duties in support of technicians, technologists, and scientists
  • Learn SOPs for analyzing and storing specimens
  • Learn biopsy specimen processing, grossing, and embedding
  • Complete meaningful independent projects within the laboratory
  • Follow direct supervision while carrying out general duties assigned by the department
  • Support laboratory functions such as data entry, instrument loading, equipment maintenance, and supply gathering
  • Perform administrative tasks including clerical support and customer service
  • Contribute to a cohesive team environment and coordinate workload with peers

Education, Qualifications & Skills

Education:

Working toward a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, microbiology, or biology

Experience:

Experience in a cytology or histology laboratory preferred

Additional Qualifications:

  • Career interest in medical diagnostics, medical toxicology, or anatomical pathology
  • Basic computer and data entry skills; Microsoft Office experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Not eligible for visa sponsorship
