Position Purpose
The Lab Analyst supports wine quality through hands-on chemical analysis of grapes, juice, and wine. Using wet chemistry, advanced instrumentation, and data entry, the analyst ensures accuracy, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of lab practices. This role directly impacts wine excellence from vineyard to bottle.
Life Sciences Lab Analyst Job – Key Responsibilities
- Perform chemical testing of grapes, fermenters, and wine per SOPs
- Operate and troubleshoot instruments like auto titrators, IR analyzers, AAS, GC/MS-QQQ, turbidimeters
- Prepare wines for bottling/shipping and execute fining trials
- Ensure data accuracy and perform timely data entry and audits
- Maintain ISO 9001, ISO 17025, FSCC22000 compliance (Manteca)
- Monitor inventory and calibration of lab instruments
- Analyze smoke taint via GC/MS (Manteca-specific)
- Participate in tasting panels and method validation projects
- Train harvest interns and coordinate with internal teams
Life Sciences Lab Analyst Job – Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Enology, Food Science, or related fields
- Minimum 6 months of lab experience
Skills & Abilities
- Solid lab techniques, reagent/sample prep, and record keeping
- Strong communication and analytical thinking
- Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word
- Adaptable to changing priorities and team collaboration
- Understanding of wine chemistry and lab safety protocols
Working Conditions
