Job Duties & Responsibilities of Medical Technologist
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures as per departmental SOPs.
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments to ensure proper functionality.
- Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
- Assist with specimen processing when required.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to PPE standards.
This is a hospital-based generalist position in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must work efficiently, accurately, and adapt to change.
Educational Requirements
- Associateโs Degree in Life Science, Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Must be ASCP certified (or eligible to take the exam within six months).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills; familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must pass a standardized color vision screen.
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts as required.
