The Microbiology Research Group at Vall d’Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) focuses on the study of microbiological aspects of infectious diseases with the aim of advancing basic, translational and clinical research to improve outcomes for patients with infectious diseases.
Our research is particularly focused on studying the mechanisms involved in antimicrobial resistance, sexually transmitted infectious diseases, the study of viral and fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, the microbial pathogenicity mechanisms, microbial epidemiology as well as in the design and evaluation of novel diagnostic systems for infectious diseases.
Microbiology Job Description
Microbiology job candidates will join the Microbiology Research Group and contribute to the research project: “Surveillance and control of healthcare-associated infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria through Whole-Genome Sequencing.” The role involves conducting predoctoral research activities, performing experiments, analyzing data, interpreting results, preparing scientific publications, and participating in scientific meetings and outreach activities.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences
- Master’s degree in Life Sciences
- Good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English (minimum English proficiency level: C1).
- Good record of publications and participation in research projects.
- Proactive and dynamic attitude, with excellent organizational skills.
- “Out-of-the-box” thinking.
Experience and Knowledge
Microbiology Job candidates should have:
- More than 2 years of experience in clinical microbiology and/or infectious diseases.
- Background in clinical microbiology, infectious diseases, and molecular biology.
- Proven experience in data management, databases maintenance, and statistics.
- Knowledge of bioinformatics applied to clinical microbiology.
Microbiology Job – Key Responsibilities
Microbiology Job applicants selected for this role will be responsible for:
- Predoctoral research activities including the design and performance of experiments, data analysis and interpretation of results as part of the research project.
- Writing scientific reports and research papers.
- Attending project meetings and scientific conferences.
- Participating in outreach activities related to the project.
