Educational Requirements for the Associate Scientist:
- Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or related biological sciences
- Minimum 1 year of laboratory bench experience outside academia
- Experience must include PCR, aseptic technique, and biological assays
- BSL-3 experience is desirable
Key Responsibilities of the Associate Scientist:
- Handle, receive, and process operational, QA, and PT samples with potential biological threat agents
- Perform microbiological and molecular techniques including DNA extraction and real-time PCR
- Prepare reagents, samples, and maintain GLP-compliant workflows
- Decontaminate workspaces, BSCs, equipment, and lab areas
- Maintain chain-of-custody and accurate data entry
- Calibrate, clean, and maintain laboratory equipment
- Analyze QA/QC swabs for contamination monitoring
- Dispose of biohazardous waste properly
- Manage inventory and support program logistics
- Conduct QA/QC testing of reagents under SOP and QAPP guidelines
- Maintain complete training, competency, and compliance documentation
- Analyze external QA samples following SOPs
- Archive, store, and ship samples securely
- Follow federal, state, and local lab safety and security regulations
- Prepare written and oral technical reports with recommendations
- Demonstrate proficiency in testing methodologies and deadline-driven workflows
- Work scheduled weekends/holidays and remain available during emergencies
