Molecular Technologist Job Description:
The Molecular Technologist I performs complex patient sample testing with limited supervision, including solution and reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, and specimen handling. The role operates on one of three established shifts and requires regular on-site work. The position is regulated, and qualifications must comply with QA and regulatory standards.
Molecular Technologist Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) libraries
- Extract and isolate nucleic acids
- Perform hybridization capture and genetic sequencing
- Operate automated liquid handling platforms (8-span, 96-head)
- Utilize NGS instruments for quantification and sizing
- Track and process samples via Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Document procedures per Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Perform equipment maintenance and ensure lab safety
- Contribute to SOP revisions and continuous quality improvement
- Assist with investigations for non-compliance events (NCRs, CAPAs)
- Maintain lab organization, cleanliness, and workflow efficiency
- Other duties as assigned
Molecular Technologist Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- MB-ASCP Certification
- Experience in QSR-compliant labs
- Familiarity with DNA manipulation, enzymatic reactions, and sequencing chemistry
- Experience with high-throughput platforms and standard lab equipment (pipettes, thermocyclers, liquid handlers)
- Proficient in LIMS, sample processing, and equipment maintenance
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask and work under pressure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint)
