Job Description
The Production Laboratory Scientist (PLS) plays a key role in supporting laboratory operations, ensuring quality, and maintaining inspection readiness. Working closely with Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS), the PLS will process patient samples on automated platforms and may contribute to the development and validation of new instruments and assays.
Key Responsibilities
- Follow laboratory technical, administrative, and safety protocols.
- Process patient samples and operate high-complexity testing under CLS supervision.
- Participate in quality assurance, control, and preventive maintenance procedures.
- Maintain an organized lab space, inventory, and equipment.
- Conduct troubleshooting and corrective actions when systems deviate from limits.
- Assist with qualification protocols for repaired instruments.
- Prepare reagents, labware, and maintain sample archives.
- Serve as a trainer for technical processes.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure workflow efficiency.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
- Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Strong verbal/written communication and attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques (qPCR, DNA extraction, sequencing).
- Laboratory operations experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and basic statistics.
Physical Requirements
- Medium work: lifting to 50 lbs occasionally, 20 lbs frequently.
- Exposure to laboratory hazards, including chemicals, biohazards, and mechanical equipment.
- Requires standing, moving, and performing repetitive motions.
