Program Description: The Vaccine Clinical Materials Program (VCMP), a part of Leidos Biomedical Research at the Frederick National Lab, supports the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Vaccine Research Center (VRC). Our mission is to accelerate preclinical and clinical research, product development, and manufacture of innovative clinical-stage vaccines and biologics to combat current and emerging infectious diseases of global importance.
Key Roles/Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and implement established protocols and methods for the thorough inspection and testing of in-process raw materials and finished vaccine products.
- Perform routine and accurate testing of environmental samples collected from manufacturing areas and conduct detailed microbial analysis of product samples.
- Actively participate in internal assessments and audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Interpret complex test results with precision and perform various microscopic techniques as required for analysis.
Basic Qualifications: To be considered for this position, you must meet the following minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Possess a bachelorโs degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a closely related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of two years of relevant job-related experience in a microbiology laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated experience with environmental and utility monitoring programs.
- Working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and fundamental scientific principles.
Physical Requirements: The role requires the physical ability to maintain balance, lift and carry up to 25 pounds, reach above shoulder level, and wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Preferred Qualifications:
- General knowledge of Biosafety Level 2 (BL2) practices and procedures.
- Hands-on experience with gram staining techniques and electronic laboratory systems such as MODA and LIMS.

Pay and Benefits: This position’s pay range is $56,200.00 – $96,625.00 annually, and it includes a comprehensive benefits package with competitive compensation, Health and Wellness programs, Paid Leave, and Retirement benefits.
