About the Role:
The Research Support Assistant position is available in Dr. Markoutsa’s lab within the Institute for Translational Virology and Innovation at the University of South Florida’s Morsani College of Medicine. The selected candidate will assist in conducting essential laboratory experiments, supporting research staff, and maintaining accurate scientific documentation.
This role is ideal for candidates eager to develop technical skills in biochemistry, molecular biology, tissue culture, and animal model studies within a dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory procedures including tissue culture, protein assays, RNA/DNA purification, and molecular manipulation.
- Handle mouse models — collect and analyze blood and tissue samples using biochemical and molecular techniques.
- Maintain laboratory records and documentation of experimental outcomes.
- Order lab equipment and consumables as per project needs.
- Support the Principal Investigator, postdoctoral researchers, and students in daily laboratory operations.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 1 year of laboratory experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic laboratory software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
- Prior experience with immunology, molecular biology, or animal research models.
- Familiarity with software such as GraphPad Prism and ImageJ.
