Research Jobs at Glasgow- Role:

The McSorley group is seeking a Research Technician to support a project studying immune infiltrates in pre-cancerous colonic adenomas to identify future cancer risk and prevention strategies. The successful candidate will conduct wet lab experiments, including IHC and mIF on FFPE patient tissue, perform bioinformatic analysis of mIF and spatial transcriptomic data, and manage daily lab operations.

Research Jobs at Glasgow- Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to academics and students to deliver experiments successfully
  • Apply in-depth technical knowledge to meet research objectives
  • Develop and test new lab equipment, protocols, and procedures
  • Troubleshoot equipment and maintain lab operations efficiently
  • Design, plan, and organize technical activities to meet project needs
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data accurately
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels, prepare media, and manage consumables

Research Technician Job- Qualifications and Skills:

  • Essential: SCQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent; experience in cancer biology labs; knowledge of laboratory Health and Safety legislation; experience with IHC and standard wet lab techniques; strong IT skills (Excel, GraphPad, ImageJ); excellent communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Desirable: BSc in Biological Sciences; experience with mIF platforms and spatial data analysis tools (QuPath, Visiopharm); analyzing IHC/mIF data in clinical contexts.

Experience:

  • Significant relevant work experience in similar research environments
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and organize workload efficiently
  • Experience understanding technical requirements and implementing appropriate methods
