Associate Food Technologist – Trident Seafoods

Educational Requirements for the Associate Food Technologist:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in food science or related role
  • Understanding of food laws and regulations
  • Strong math, scientific measurement, and data analysis skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, PowerPoint, and database tools

Preferred:

  • Ability to independently organize and execute assignments
  • Self-directed work style with minimal supervision

Key Responsibilities of the Associate Food Technologist:

  • Initiate, produce, and supply prototype and existing product samples
  • Draft provisional specifications for customer-targeted samples
  • Conduct bench-top research, ingredient evaluations, lab experiments, and shelf-life tests
  • Assess ingredient feasibility regarding functionality, cost, availability, and manufacturing fit
  • Prepare and ship internal and external hand samples
  • Develop methods to enhance food quality, texture, nutritional value, and composition
  • Create R&D processing specs and document all lab/plant trial results
  • Support regulatory teams during audits
  • Participate in sensory evaluations, product cuttings, and customer presentations
  • Support FSQA in developing food standards, safety protocols, and sanitary regulations
  • Maintain samples for validation, testing, and product reviews

Skills Required for the Associate Food Technologist:

  • Strong understanding of food science principles
  • Knowledge of ingredient functionality and product formulation
  • Ability to perform lab experiments and interpret results
  • Familiarity with food safety, food regulations, and product standards
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to travel between R&D facilities and plants (up to 30%)
  • Basic knowledge of database management and digital tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively in R&D and cross-functional teams
