Bio-chemistry Job- Role

As a Protein Scientist at Twist Bioscience, you will play a key role in expanding our protein capabilities and supporting the transfer of innovative protein workflows from research to large-scale production. Working on-site at our Wilsonville, OR facility, youโ€™ll develop and optimize methods for protein expression, purification, and characterization to ensure smooth integration into manufacturing.

Bio-chemistry Job- Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement workflows for biophysical and functional characterization of recombinant proteins and antibodies.
  • Perform assays such as SEC, DLS, DSF, BLI, SPR, and MS, ensuring accuracy and reproducibility.
  • Support technology transfer from R&D to production, optimizing methods and training manufacturing teams.
  • Lead efforts to insource protein expression and purification systems, benchmarking performance and efficiency.
  • Prepare technical documentation, protocols, and training guides for workflow implementation.
  • Analyze complex datasets to drive continuous improvement and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, representing protein science in project discussions.
  • Maintain detailed records in electronic lab notebooks and communicate findings effectively.

Protein Scientist Role- Qualifications:

Required:

  • Ph.D. in Protein Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field; or M.S. with 2โ€“5 years of industry experience.
  • Hands-on expertise in protein purification, characterization, and assay development.
  • Experience with analytical techniques including SEC, DLS, DSF, BLI, SPR, MS, and enzymatic activity assays.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to optimize workflows.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and documentation abilities.

Preferred:

  • Experience in high-throughput automation or protein production systems.
  • Familiarity with Illumina NGS, ISO 13485, or regulated molecular diagnostics environments.
  • Programming knowledge (SQL, JSON, or Python) for data analysis.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment.
