Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented scientist to join our protein expression team. This role focuses on large-scale expression of recombinant proteins and virus-like particles (VLPs) using transient transfection of suspension mammalian cells. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with various expression systems and bioreactor technologies and will collaborate closely with upstream and downstream groups, including protein purification and characterization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform large-scale (up to 10L) recombinant protein and VLP expression using transient transfection in mammalian suspension cells
- Operate and maintain expression systems such as shake flasks and WAVE bioreactors
- Assist in developing and optimizing expression conditions for challenging protein targets, including multimeric proteins
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and perform sterile cell culture in a biosafety cabinet (BSC)
- Monitor cell health and growth using standard methods, including automated cell analyzers (e.g., BioProfile FLEX)
- Coordinate closely with purification and characterization teams to ensure seamless project handoffs and data sharing
- Follow lab protocols and documentation practices to ensure compliance with internal standards and safety regulations
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- MS in biology, biochemistry, or a related scientific field, OR
- BS in biology, biochemistry, or related field with 2+ years of relevant post-graduate scientific experience (industry experience preferred)
- Authorization to work in the U.S. without restriction or sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with suspension mammalian cell cultures
- Familiarity with large-scale culture techniques, including WAVE bioreactors
- Experience using cell analyzers like BioProfile FLEX
- Knowledge of sterile technique and experience working in a BSC
- Proficiency in protein expression and transient transfection methods
- Exposure to protein characterization techniques such as SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, and UV-VIS spectroscopy
Additional Information
This position is Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime as needed and the potential for some off-shift hours, depending on the project. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of West Point, PA, are encouraged to apply.
