Position Summary
The Research and Development Technologist conducts R&D activities across all BBU-manufactured and co-manufactured products. This role supports product innovation, troubleshooting, process development, technology integration, and productivity projects, from concept through production start-up.
Key Responsibilities of Food Science Jobs
- Design and execute experiments; analyze results and provide actionable recommendations.
- Support product improvements, cost reductions, new product development, and technical initiatives.
- Present research findings and protocols to colleagues professionally.
- Execute assigned development programs following timelines and cost parameters.
- Work hands-on or provide direction to bring ideas into commercial products.
- Utilize internal resources (lab, packaging, engineering, marketing, etc.) to advance projects.
- Provide technical guidance to R&D team members and other departments.
- Prepare product specifications and process operating guides.
- Write progress reports, memos, and documentation as required.
- Collaborate with operations teams at all facilities to implement projects.
- Partner effectively with external ingredient suppliers.
- Maintain strong communication within R&D and cross-functional groups.
- Keep detailed daily logs to ensure continuity of project work.
- Lead special projects related to products, processes, equipment, or facility concepts.
- Travel to technical facilities and co-packers as required.
Education & Work History
- Bachelorโs degree in Food Science, Food/Agricultural/Biological Sciences.
- Minimum 6 months R&D experience in food; bakery experience preferred.
- Understanding of baking processes and ingredient functionality.
- Strong initiative, self-direction, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, databases, and other relevant software.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Education for Food Science Jobs
- M.S. in Food Science or related field
- AIB Residence Course completion
- Statistical process control, DOE, and data analysis experience
- Significant bakery R&D/Quality experience
