Mars is seeking a skilled Area Quality & Food Safety Specialist to join its R&D team in Waco, Texas, USA. This role serves as the โ€œface of R&Dโ€ within the value stream, ensuring compliance with global food safety standards and driving continuous improvement in Quality Management Systems (QMS). About the Role

The Area Quality & Food Safety Specialist is the key R&D representative for the value stream. This role ensures the implementation and continuous improvement of Quality Management Systems (QMS), meeting both external regulatory requirements and Marsโ€™ internal global Quality & Food Safety standards. The primary objective is to maintain excellence in food safety performance.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering, Chemistry or a related field.
  • 2โ€“4 yearsโ€™ experience in a manufacturing environment with focus on quality or food safety.
  • Strong leadership and influencing capabilities.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Food Science, Engineering, Chemistry, or related.
  • 2โ€“3 years of experience in quality functions (raw materials, QMS, manufacturing).
  • HACCP certification.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008, GFSI systems (SQF, BRC, FSSC22000).
  • Familiarity with GMP, food allergens, pest control, sanitation, FSMA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement QMP standards and ensure full compliance.
  • Lead the food safety program to meet external standards (FSC 22000, GFSI, FSMA).
  • Act as HACCP Lead and manage GMP/GHP and CCP/OPRP programs.
  • Oversee CAPAs, audits, document control, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical input for equipment installation and trials.
  • First-line incident management and coordination with stakeholders.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and monitor corrective actions.
  • Handle consumer and customer complaints.
  • Deliver food safety training to build capability within teams.
