Educational Requirements for the Food Technologist Role:
- Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Vocational or collegiate training in Food Science, Dairy Technology, or a related field (considered commensurate with experience)
Experience Required for the Food Technologist Role:
- 1โ3 years of experience in the food or dairy industry preferred.
- Experience in pilot plant operations or product development is an advantage.
Key Responsibilities of the Food Technologist Role:
- Schedule and conduct routine and new product pilot plant trials.
- Inventory, gather, and prepare ingredients and supplies for testing.
- Batch formulations for fluid, cultured, and frozen products.
- Operate and maintain pilot plant and laboratory equipment.
- Record trial data, document observations, and report results.
- Assist project leaders in data interpretation and next-step recommendations.
- Support or conduct production trials and routine lab tests under supervision.
- Maintain and update standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure all operations comply with food safety and quality standards.
Skills Required for the Food Technologist Role:
- Strong understanding of food processing principles and dairy technology.
- Attention to detail with accurate data recording and observation skills.
- Ability to follow technical procedures and work under moderate supervision.
