We are seeking a highly motivated individual for a Laboratory Technician position that combines responsibilities in food technology and microbiology. You will support the R&D team in maintaining high laboratory standards and contribute to developing next-generation alternative protein products.

About the Job

To strengthen our R&D team, we’re looking for an enthusiastic Laboratory Technician (m/f/x) with experience in laboratory maintenance, microbiology, and food processing techniques. Your work will directly support our innovative product development and help us maintain the highest standards in research and quality. You’ll report directly to our CTO and collaborate closely with our R&D scientists.

Your Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized laboratory environment, ensuring proper hygiene and contamination control.
  • Prepare laboratory solutions, reagents, and growth media; clean and maintain glassware and equipment.
  • Perform routine microbiological procedures, including culture preparation, subculturing, and strain maintenance.
  • Support product sample preparation and small-scale production for internal testing and client demonstrations, following hygiene and food safety standards.
  • Monitor and record equipment usage, calibrations, and performance (e.g., temperature logs).
  • Manage inventory of consumables and coordinate procurement as needed.
  • Maintain and update SOPs for critical lab equipment and train colleagues in proper usage.
  • Assist R&D teams in setting up and executing experiments in applied microbiology and food product development.

Requirements

  • Completed an apprenticeship as a Biological or Chemical Laboratory Technician, or a BSc in Biology, Biotechnology, Food Science, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in biotech, foodtech, or a research institute.
  • Hands-on experience in microbiological methods and food lab routines (QC and/or R&D).
  • Strong organizational skills and a meticulous, team-oriented mindset.
  • Familiar with laboratory equipment operation and standard analytical methods.
  • Comfortable using MS Office (especially Excel) and digital lab records.
  • Fluent in English and German, both written and spoken.
