About the Role
Biogen invites applications for a 6-month student life sciences bioassay job in the Bioassays and High-Throughput Screens (BHTS) group within the Synthetic Medicines Design (SMD) department in Cambridge, MA. This position is ideal for undergraduate juniors/seniors, and Master’s or PhD students passionate about early drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities
As a co-op student in this life sciences bioassay job, you will:
- Learn and apply state-of-the-art techniques in early drug discovery to design cell-based and biochemical assays.
- Work with multiple detection methods including mass spectrometry, radiometry, luminescence, and fluorescence.
- Gain hands-on experience with high-throughput in vitro techniques such as bioassay automation, cell culture, ELISAs, and membrane extraction.
- Develop microplate-based kinetic assays to characterize drug–target interactions.
- Apply data analysis and visualization techniques to bioassay data to guide next research steps.

You are passionate about life sciences research, eager to learn, and detail-oriented. You excel in laboratory documentation and possess strong communication skills to clearly present findings.
Required Qualifications
- GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred
- Basic laboratory experience with attention to detail
- Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with small molecule testing in cell-based or biochemical assays
- Knowledge of semi-automated liquid handling
- Experience with MSD, ELISA, TR-FRET/HTRF, or luminescence readouts
- Experience in kinetic assay development for kinases
- Proficiency in bioassay data analysis and visualization software
Education Requirements
- Undergraduate Junior/Senior students; Master’s or PhD students preferred
- Majors: Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related fields
