Job Summary and Qualifications

You Will:

  • Perform specimen processing, microbiology, serology, and infectious disease testing independently, including moderate and high-complexity testing under the direction of a laboratory supervisor, manager, or director.

  • Assure timely and compliant processing and testing in alignment with department policies, procedures, and accrediting agency requirements.

  • Conduct and practice preventive maintenance on equipment per the department schedule.

  • Apply laboratory medicine principles and utilize independent judgment and problem-solving skills to ensure accurate test results and proper equipment performance.

  • Understand and implement laboratory quality control and quality assurance in accordance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.

  • Adhere to department policy concerning quality control and quality assurance for lab testing and equipment.

  • Act as a resource to peers and customers, modeling teamwork.

  • Assist in orientation, training, and competency documentation of department personnel as requested.

You Should Have for Microbiology Technologist Role:

  • Associate’s Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology, or Chemistry (required)

  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in the same fields (preferred)

  • National Certification as a Microbiology Technologist (required)

  • State license (where required)

  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory methods, microbiology, serology, and infectious disease processes, including disease-result correlation.

  • General knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance.

  • General knowledge of laboratory billing guidelines.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Effective teamwork.

  • Proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work.
