Job Description Summary

The Microbiologist is responsible for in-process and release testing of injectable pharmaceutical finished products. The role includes final product microbiological testing, environmental monitoring, raw material testing, and microbiological identification. The Microbiologist I also participates in procedure reviews and validation studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform bioburden, sterility, and bacterial endotoxin testing on raw materials and finished products.

  • Conduct viable and non-viable environmental monitoring and operate particle counter systems.

  • Test sterility and environmental media for microbial growth; perform growth promotion testing.

  • Support validation projects and participate in isolate identification from samples.

  • Collect and test water samples from the Reverse Osmosis system; operate TOC analyzers.

  • Prepare supplies for sterilization (autoclaves) and depyrogenation (dry heat ovens).

  • Perform aseptic gowning requalification testing for operators.

  • Ensure accurate documentation, GMP compliance, and data entry via Microsoft Excel and MODA.

  • Support process improvements using Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma tools.

  • Maintain laboratory systems, perform preventative maintenance, and ensure adherence to quality policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or related science field.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Knowledge of microbiological techniques (Gram staining, aseptic technique, gowning).

  • Ability to lift 25 lbs and distinguish color.

  • U.S. work authorization (no visa sponsorship available).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cleanroom experience.

  • Experience with MODA or other electronic data tracking systems.

  • Prior work with sterility, endotoxin, and bioburden testing.
