Position Details
- Location: Bonn, Germany
- Host Institutions: UNU-EHS / UNU-VIE and UNFCCC
- Closing Date: 31 October 2025 (23:59 CET)
- Application Window: 1 October 2025 โ 31 October 2025
- Fellowship Duration: 1 year (renewable for one more year based on performance)
- Number of Fellowships: Up to 12 per cohort
Eligibility & Qualifications
- Applicants must be citizens of a developing country and 32 years or younger at the time of application.
- Hold (or be completing) an advanced degree such as a Masterโs, Doctorate, or equivalent in fields related to climate science, environmental studies, policy, or life sciences.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance and interest in the interface between research and policy development.
- Have up to two years of relevant experience (including internships, research assistantships, or policy projects).
- Be fluent in English (spoken and written); proficiency in another UN language is an advantage.
- Priority: Women and applicants from Least Developed Countries (LDCs) are highly encouraged to apply.

Application Process
Stage 1 โ Submission
- Applicants must submit the following:
- Cover Letter (1 page) highlighting qualifications, experience, and preferred work area.
- Curriculum Vitae (CV) (max. two pages).
- Completed UNU Personal History Form (P11).
- Academic transcripts and degree certificates compiled into one PDF.
- Submit applications via Recruitee, selecting preferred working areas at both UNU-EHS/VIE (e.g., EMIC, MCII, EVES, GLOMOS, WISE, PACET, FAST, or Communications) and UNFCCC (e.g., Adaptation, Mitigation, Transparency, Legal Affairs, or Operations Coordination).
- Incomplete applications or missing P11 forms will not be reviewed.
Stage 2 โ Shortlisting
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a competency-based interview via Zoom or phone.
Stage 3 โ Selection
Successful candidates will be contracted under a UNU Personnel Service Agreement (PSA) and will officially join the UNFCCC Fellowship Programme in Bonn.
