Basic Qualifications
Education/Experience/Requirements
Abbott PhD Principle Scientist
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related field with a minimum of eight years of experience integrating biochemical processes onto consumables or instruments
- Development of consumables that interface with instruments incorporating liquid handling, chemistry, optics, heating, or other components
- Hands-on nucleic acid amplification and detection technologies experience, with isothermal nucleic acid amplification a plus
- Experience with nucleic acid sample preparation methods, experience with magnetic particle manipulation and separation is preferred
- Experience working with clinical samples using molecular diagnostic techniques, BSL2 level training preferred
- Ability to work as part of a cross-functional team with excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated record of accomplishments (e.g., published papers and issued patents)
Excellent analytical and troubleshooting capabilities, with good attention to detail - Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects with minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications for Abbott PhD Principle Scientist job
- Extensive experience in IVD product development and FDA submissions.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, creative problem solver in technical areas.Familiarity with the various regulatory requirements (GMP, ISO and IVDD).
- Project management experiences a plus

Responsibilities
Abbott PhD Principle Scientist
- Perform research and development related to expanding core technology capabilities by developing approaches to implement existing sample preparation and target amplification methods onto new point-of-care platforms.
- Independently perform assay and product development studies, from initial design through validation
- Lead the modification and optimization of reagents and methods in order for them to be compatible with CLIA-waived strategies for automating the sample processing and detection workflow
- Design prototype consumables and associated reagents that interface with current platforms (or those under development) to expedite the processing of a variety of clinical matrices.
- Design and execute complex experiments to assess the performance of prototypes and optimize as needed
