About the Biomedical Engineering Internship

The Formulation Development Internship is part of Johnson & Johnson’s Career Programs and offers hands-on experience in biomedical engineering, biochemistry, and pharmaceutical sciences. This life science internship focuses on studying the effects of real-world stresses on drug products within the J&J portfolio. Interns will design and execute experiments that mimic agitation, mixing, and transportation stresses on protein formulations used in vials, IV bags, and syringes.

You’ll gain a deep understanding of how physical stresses impact protein stability and patient safety through both literature review and experimental data collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute laboratory experiments simulating transportation stresses.
  • Study the effects of shear, mixing, impact, and cavitation on protein formulations.
  • Utilize analytical tools such as Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), FlowCam, and MFI.
  • Develop stress-specific frameworks for evaluating drug product stability.
  • Contribute findings that enhance patient safety and product reliability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of laboratory experience required.
  • Rising junior (undergraduate) or graduate student preferred.
