They are currently recruiting a Research Scientist for a research project in Duke’s Division of Translational Brain Sciences at the Dept of Neurology to support a study focused on preclinical validation of gene therapy approach for Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases based on viral platforms and CRISPR/Cas technology.

Qualifications, Education/Experience
- Ph.D. degree or equivalent in medical sciences, genetic or molecular biology.
Compensation Salary would commensurate with previous experience and background.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- This position will heavily rely on expertise in animals (mice) work and hiPSC technology.
- The prospective candidate must be proficient with basic mouse handling procedures and maintenance. Expertise and proficiency in stereotaxic injections is required. In addition, the successful candidate must be proficient with cell culture work and neuronal culturing.
- Experience with hiPSC techniques and the derived model systems is highly preferred.
- Proficiency and extensive experience in basic molecular biology and cell biology techniques including assay development skills are required for this position.
- That includes immunoblotting, flow, IHC, microscopy, histology and pathology analyses, and real-time PCR.
- Previous experience in work with viral vectors is a plus, but not mandatory. The prospective candidate will have good communication skills, allowing effective communication with other team members and the PI.
- The person will establish workflow with the help of the principal investigator and core staff and is expected to learn and execute procedures and experiments independently with minimal supervision. The person will be expected to supervise and help the work of lower-level employees, such as students, and to train new personnel. The person will lead and oversee the lab’s projects related to PD-AD animal models including establishing and maintaining IACUC, and biosafety protocols.
