Position Summary
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant will execute experiments using different types of biological assays and analyze experimental data. The incumbent will also work with animals and potentially hazardous substances, while maintaining equipment and disposing of biological/hazardous wastes as required.
General Duties
- Use scientific methods to prepare and conduct experiments
- Follow proper protocol and ensure materials are available
- Prepare and analyze samples and solutions
- Maintain a logbook and use statistical and scientific computer programs
- Report results of experiments and participate in meetings with research staff
- Train and supervise students on laboratory methods
- Manage lab equipment and perform preventive maintenance procedures
- Assist with grant and contract proposals
- Undertake other duties as required in support of the research lab
Required Skills
- Organizational skills with the ability to coordinate workflow
- Problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to work with dangerous materials and equipment safely
- Strong communication skills
Education / Experience
- Education: Master’s Degree in Life Sciences or related field
- Work Experience: 0 to 6 months in a research environment
Salary: $49,722.40 – $92,346.80 /Year
