Position Overview
Novonesis is seeking a Bioprocess Technician to join its Development and Optimization of Microbes organization. The company focuses on using biosolutions to address global challenges, leveraging biology to drive innovation across industries such as agriculture, bioenergy, human health, and functional foods.
The Development and Optimization of Microbes organization is responsible for the development, scale-up, and optimization of microbe products, processes, and technologies. Teams consist of scientists and researchers utilizing lab-, pilot-, and production-scale equipment along with advanced data and digital tools. Collaboration occurs globally to advance industrial microbiology solutions.
The Role & Impact
The Bioprocess Technician contributes to the development of new biosolutions by executing lab- and pilot-scale fermentation and recovery experiments with diverse microbes. The role involves close collaboration with scientists and researchers to advance new products and processes.
Key Responsibilities
The Bioprocess Technician is responsible for:
- Executing experimental plans alongside scientists and researchers to deliver high-quality results.
- Operating lab- and pilot-scale bioreactors and downstream equipment, including media preparation, tank setup, inoculation, monitoring, sampling, analytics, and documenting results in ELNs.
- Using purchasing systems to maintain raw materials, reagents, and supplies.
- Performing duties safely while maintaining a clean and organized workspace in alignment with company policies and regulations.
- Following, writing, and updating SOPs while learning equipment-specific software.
- Maintaining laboratory equipment through calibration, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and repairs, including coordination with internal and external vendors.
- Troubleshooting issues independently when possible and escalating when necessary.
- Participating in and occasionally leading continuous improvement projects.
- Supporting nighttime or weekend sampling, troubleshooting, or urgent deadlines as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Food Science, Biology, Biochemistry, or Bioprocess Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with fermentation or microbial bioprocessing, including analytical techniques such as microscopy, cell enumeration, and spectroscopy.
- Familiarity with mechanical systems, including compressed air, chilled water, and steam.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software applications.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
