Job Responsibilities:
- Assist the supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the Point of Care (POC) team.
- Generate and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to management.
- Support the training of new hires and the professional development of current employees.
- Keep the supervisor informed about team progress, challenges, employee performance, and any significant factors affecting assigned responsibilities.
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing based on established criteria.
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
- Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
- Report accurate and timely test results to ensure quality patient care.
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
- Assist with the processing of specimens when required.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to all safety protocols, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Requirements:
- Bachelorโs degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) generalist is required.
- Prior Point of Care (POC) experience is a plus.
- ASCP and/or AMT Certifications are a plus.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience is a plus.
- Understanding of laboratory operations, policies, and procedures.
- Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment.
- Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
