Job Description
This lab specialist job at Michigan Medicine offers a unique opportunity to work in the Prensner Laboratory at the Chad Carr Pediatric Brain Tumor Center. The role focuses on understanding the genomic basis of cancer and exploring therapeutic strategies.
The selected candidate will contribute to advanced research involving ribosome profiling, RNA sequencing, and epitranscriptomic profiling. This life science job allows you to work with cutting-edge molecular and biochemical techniques while collaborating with global research teams as part of the Cancer Grand Challenges initiative.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in life sciences
- Coursework in cell biology, molecular biology, and chemistry
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of undergraduate research experience
- 1 year of post-undergraduate research experience (preferred)
Skills and Abilities
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and tissue culture
- Knowledge of molecular techniques such as PCR, RNA extraction, and DNA extraction
- Strong organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Ability to manage complex experiments and large datasets
- Experience with CRISPR, RNAi, or lentivirus (plus)
- Basic computational skills (plus)
- Self-motivated and eager to learn
Key Responsibilities
- Learn and execute protocols for ribosome profiling, RNA-sequencing, and epitranscriptomic profiling
- Perform tissue culture, in vitro bioassays, and small molecule treatments
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Prepare, order, and manage reagents and lab supplies
- Document, compile, and analyze experimental data
- Present findings through oral and written reports
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to experimental planning
- Assist in analyzing large genomic and cell line datasets
- Support ongoing research projects and lab operations
