Job Description
As a Life Science Research Professional 1, you will perform experiments, analyze data, and support the day-to-day operations of the Spencer Lab. Responsibilities include sample processing, molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, gel electrophoresis), microbial cultivation, and lab management. You will maintain SOPs, manage lab inventories, oversee equipment and safety compliance, and train students and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and independently conduct experiments to support defined research projects.
- Maintain detailed records of experimental methods, outcomes, and analyses
- Apply life science principles to interpret results and suggest modifications to protocols
- Assist with general lab maintenance, chemical inventory, and safety documentation
- Support the orientation and training of new lab personnel
- Contribute to publications, presentations, and grant proposals as needed
- Maintain a safe and organized lab environment, adhering to EH&S/IBC compliance
Education Qualification
Bachelorโs degree in a related scientific field
Experience and Skills
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, gel electrophoresis)
- Familiarity with anaerobic bacterial culture, sterile technique, and cell culture
- Aptitude for planning, organizing, and independently executing tasks
- Experience or familiarity with R and Python environments is a plus
- General understanding of scientific principles and laboratory practices
- Ability to maintain accurate experimental records
- Problem-solving and analytical thinking skills
