Educational Requirements for the Research Technician Role:
- Bachelorโs or Masterโs degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field
- 1โ2 years of laboratory training OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Masterโs degree preferred
Key Responsibilities of the Research Technician Role:
- Perform complex physical, chemical, and biological experiments
- Compile, analyze, and document experimental results
- Modify existing lab procedures as needed
- Maintain mice colonies (breeding, genotyping)
- Assist with routine lab experiments
- Perform molecular biology techniques (PCR, DNA/RNA/protein extraction, cloning)
- Package viruses (AAV, Lenti)
- Conduct histological procedures: tissue processing, sectioning, immunofluorescence
- Prepare media, reagents, buffers, and solutions
- Operate, clean, and maintain lab equipment
- Maintain inventory of supplies and materials
- Review and assist in training lower-level lab personnel
- Generate graphs and charts for scientific publications
- Maintain raw data database and prepare data for PI review
- Assist in small individual experiments as part of larger projects
- Participate in lab meetings and journal clubs
- Collect, process, and manage tissue samples and organoid cultures
- Uphold safety, documentation, and compliance standards
Skills Required for the Research Technician Role:
- Strong understanding of molecular biology and laboratory techniques
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Organizational and time management skills
- Experience with animal handling preferred
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills
- Ability to troubleshoot and modify protocols
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to maintain composure, professionalism, and problem-solving attitude
