Essential requirements
You must have a BSc degree in Biotechnology and prior work experience in a multidisciplinary research group in the field of Electrical Engineering.
Given the multidisciplinary nature of the post, you should be able to demonstrate prior experience in the field of technology platforms for cancer genetics, design and optimisation of isothermal amplification chemistries as well as assembly and testing of Lab-on-Chip platforms. This post also requires you to have excellent written and oral communication skills and to be able to work in close collaboration with engineers, biochemists and cancer researchers.
Job summary
The Research Assistant will support the development of methods for detection of cancer specific biomarkers using novel nucleic acid chemistries as well as the development and testing of Lab-on-Chip technology platforms. In taking up this role, you will join ongoing multidisciplinary projects at the Centre that aim to utilise genetic and epigenetic biomarkers by applying engineering methods for detection, to provide faster and more accurate early diagnosis and disease assessment.
You will contribute in research development, including protocol planning and profiling of gene-based assays specific to the application; and collaborate with engineers and specialists in the field of electronic and biomedical engineering at a PhD and Postdoctoral level, towards the integration of assays with large-scale Lab-on-Chip platforms.
Duties and responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting research in the field of cancer genetics/epigenetics, molecular biology and Lab-on-Chip technology development and testing.
- Maintenance and day-to-day operation of a molecular biology/genetics laboratory.
- Attending and presenting at progress update meetings.
