Educational Requirements for the R&D Technologist Role:

Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Animal Science, or related field

AND 2+ years of plant manufacturing experience in the meat processing industry

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred:

Master’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or Animal Science (qualifies in lieu of experience)

Key Responsibilities of the R&D Technologist Role:
- Develop new products and line extensions from concept to commercialization
- Conduct production tests at manufacturing plants
- Utilize formulation databases to create or adjust product formulations
- Improve product performance and ensure quality
- Perform pilot plant tests to produce and evaluate product prototypes
- Document findings and organize product reviews
- Provide written and verbal updates to stakeholders
- Work closely with teams across Business, Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Engineering, Quality, and Process Control
- Assist R&D team members in prototype creation
- Maintain accurate project files, specifications, and formulations
- Ensure compliance with USDA/FDA regulations and industry standards
- Continuously develop product development skills
Skills Required for the R&D Technologist Role:
- Strong scientific knowledge of meat and non-meat ingredients
- Ability to operate pilot plant equipment with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in online work systems and product development software
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to travel up to 40%
- Team-oriented mindset with a positive work approach
