In a senior scientist role, the Entrepreneurial Scientist position will focus on developing new cell-based technologies to support Avantor’s Life Sciences Division. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or microbiology. Responsibilities will include the design and implementation of cell-based assays, molecular biology techniques, and viral vector production. He/she will work with a team of scientists to drive idea generation, project planning and execution to meet Avantor’s innovation objectives. He/she will develop and use novel approaches and tools in a collaborative team environment to drive projects to successful completion.
MAJOR JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (List in order of importance)
Avantor Biology Scientist Vacancy
- Conducts hands-on technical experiments to develop products for cell and gene therapy drug product manufacturing
- Develops and characterize cell-based assays (e.g. qPCR, western blots, ELISA, vector potency, infectious titer, MOI, etc.)
- Performs culturing, transduction, and characterization of mammalian cells
- Designs, guides, and executes viral vector process development
- Explores novel technologies and facilitate technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders for implementing new viral vector and cellular technologies
- Collaborates with diverse project teams to support department objectives and provide scientific recommendations
- Develops ideas, tests feasibility, develops, and commercializes products
- Develops project plan and detailed activities and executes various tasks to complete the project within the desired timeframe by finding and using innovative approaches to get things done
- When necessary, travels to customer sites and/or internal Avantor sites to clearly define deliverables, conduct voice of customers and support project generation activities
- Facilitates and participates in daily, weekly and monthly project check-in meetings and adjusts plan and activities based on feedback to complete the project on time

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/Training, Experience and Certifications)
PhD in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology
Candidates with previous hands-on experience in executing and leading viral vector process development and characterization will be preferred
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those necessary to perform the job competently)

- Strong background in molecular biology and recombinant DNA technologies
- Experience in viral vector generation, cellular cloning, molecular characterization of DNA, RNA, and protein expression
- Displayed experience in mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques
