Educational Requirements:

  • Preferred Qualification: Bachelorโ€™s degree in a scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Immunology, or related field).
  • Experience: Up to one year of laboratory experience or equivalent training.

Key Responsibilities of the Research Technician:

  • Assist in bench research experiments following established protocols.
  • Perform laboratory techniques such as tissue culture, PCR, immunohistochemistry, electrophoresis, protein purification, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and data analysis.
  • Conduct inventory management, order supplies, and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare stock solutions, reagents, and media as required.
  • Support mouse colony oversight and, when necessary, test malaria proteins as vaccine candidates using mouse models.
  • Assist with data interpretation, basic statistical analysis, and report preparation.

Skills Required for the Research Technician Role:

  • Proficiency in molecular biology and immunology techniques.
  • Strong understanding of PCR, tissue culture, and gene editing methods.
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research team.
  • Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and adaptability in a laboratory setting.
  • Prior experience with malaria research or mouse model handling is an advantage.
